Idli / Dosa Podi


Idli / Dosa Podi:

This recipe goes well with idli, dosa and sometimes with rice too J


Ingredients:

Urad dhal – 1 cup
Chana dal - 1 cup
Long red chillis – 15 in number
Oil – ½ tsp
Hing / asafoetida – little
Curry leaves – few
Salt – to taste

Method:

Roast all the ingredients in a heavy bottom pan with little oil. Flame must be in sim.
Turn off the stove after urad dhal and chana dhal turns red in color.
If you are using powdered asafetida add it after turning the flame off.
Grind them into a coarse powder in a mixie.
Add salt and mix well.
If you store the in an air tight container, it can stay for a month.

Variations:

If you like garlic, You can add 4 to 5 cloves of garlic when you roast all ingredients.
You can also add 1 tsp of sesame seeds when you roast all ingredients.
You can drop curry leaves if you do not like the taste of curry leaves.
Note:

Do not add more oil if u want to store it long.
Likewise if you add garlic and sesame seeds it will not stay long.
